When I was younger, I had a desire to be behind the camera…

On a family vacation once I met an older boy who claimed to work for National Geographic. Who knows if this was true or not. In hindsight he was most likely a photo intern and was just trying to impress me. We had one of those platonic friendships, you know, platonic because I was a very young teenager and he was at least twenty years old. Still, we wrote each other letters for awhile. Why he was writing a thirteen year old letters I don’t know but I thought it was pretty cool. I also remember thinking it was a little strange and my mom being concerned when the letters would arrive and then me not writing him back eventually. Which reminds me of this funny thing Laura Benanti tweeted the other day.

But anyway… I digress. My brief interest in this gentleman lead me to ask for a camera for Christmas that year and I played with it for awhile before losing interest. Then I lent it to my sister for a school project and then she lost it. My career as a photo journalist was over just as quickly as my interest in the dude.

I don’t have any desire to take still pictures anymore but I would like to make my own films. This short I wrote and directed a few years back was my first crack at it. Can’t wait until the next time I’m behind the camera.
